Handel and Scarlatti Concert with the King’s Sinfonietta in November 2023

Harpenden Choral Society is a highly regarded amateur choir with an established reputation for quality performances with professional soloists and orchestras.  Since its formation in 1975 the choir has grown from strength to strength and our repertoire now includes most of the major choral works as well as some lesser-known works and contemporary pieces.

We perform four concerts a year including a much-loved carol concert and we hold an open workshop or Come and Sing event once a year. Most  concerts are in the Harpenden area but the choir has also performed further afield.  We recently sang Vaughan Williams’ A Sea Symphony with Stevenage Choral Society in Stevenage and also supported The Hospice of St Francis, Berkhamsted at St Albans Cathedral.

Rehearsals
We have about 75 members and rehearse on Tuesdays at 8pm, under the excellent direction of our acclaimed Musical Director John Andrews, and superb accompanist Vivien Powles. >> More about our musical team

Community
We are a registered charity. Our aim is to encourage public knowledge and appreciation of choral music through concert performances of a wide range of classical works and through open workshops.  Each year, we invite our Christmas carol concert audience to donate to a local charity through a retiring collection. In 2022, our Christmas concert raised £1000 for One YMCA.
